About Maraefit

MaraeFit is an app-based, marae-centric approach to discover more opportunities to be active as Māori, reconnect to marae, koha points and improve overall wellbeing.

MaraeFit uses an age-based points system to incentivise engagement for the whole whānau. Everyone who participates in a MaraeFit kaupapa can koha their points to a chosen marae. The marae with the most points at the end of the annual series is recognised and acknowledged.

Key Features

Marae finder

The Marae finder helps you find your marae. It links marae to rohe (regions) and iwi.

There are thousands of marae throughout Aotearoa. Presently, our database includes over 800 marae using guidelines from Tātai to connect to iwi and associated rohe (regions). Using Tātai is our first attempt at providing a national approach to identifying marae, iwi and rohe – as Maraefit data collection expands, this approach may change.

Marae connections

Marae koha

Koha points system

MaraeFit is open to all people of all ages. The age determined points system encourages whānau to be active together to earn more points to koha to your chosen marae.

When you register to an activity you are asked to koha your points to one of your chosen marae.

Add whānau

Add your entire whānau to your MaraeFit profile. We developed this feature for whānau that do not have mobile devices, like Nanny and Koro, or a classroom of children. Now everyone can take part in MaraeFit!

Points koha

Everyone who participates in a MaraeFit activity can koha their points to a chosen marae. The marae with the most points at the end of the annual series is recognised and acknowledged as the most active marae.
